Reframing Homelessness Bus Tour
On Friday, July 30, the Volunteer Center and its community partners piloted a bus tour to inform corporate, university, and community organizations about Grand Rapids' vision to end homelessnes and our belief that adults age 50+ can volunteer their skills and experience to help solve homelessness.
Participants on the tour met at the Johnson Center for opening presentations. We learned about the successful efforts of the Congregational Partnership Program offered by GRACE to help families that are experiencing a housing crisis. Then we traveled to Habitat for Humanity and Well House. We toured three foreclosed homes under renovation by Habitat: one house that was at the beginning of renovation, one that was well-underway, and a final, beautiful finished product. At Well House we met some of the lovely residents and learned about their aspirations and commitment to their small community of permanent housing.
